Vaginal discoloration is a very common problem for women and can be corrected by genital lightening, a process that can be defined as the reduction of coloration or pigmentation in the genital area, particularly the vulva and perineum. The discoloration of the skin in and around the groin can be due to many causes, including friction from tight clothing, excessive sweating, and hormonal changes caused by childbirth or natural aging. Some people are predisposed to have darker skin pigments, which causes darkening of the skin in certain areas of their body.
Fotona Erbium Laser is an advanced ablative laser that gently peels away microfine layers of pigmented surface tissue, revealing lighter skin underneath, stimulating the growth of fresh, less pigmented cells.
The biggest advantage of this laser technique is that vaginal whitening can be performed very quickly and very easily. An additional benefit of using the Fotona Erbium Laser for genital lightening is that the newly developed skin is firmer and smoother due to the stimulated collagen regeneration. It also has few side effects, and usually mild tenderness and temporary redness go away within a few days.
Before bleaching the vagina with laser, a local anesthetic cream is applied to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Then laser is applied to the darkened areas. You may feel a slight warming
sensation, itching or mild discomfort during this time.
The color lightening treatment with Fotona Smooth Laser takes between 20-30 minutes.
Before this procedure, you must have a PAP smear test performed within the last year with a normal result. Apart from this, no special pre-operative preparation or post-operative precautions are required and there is no need to use antibiotics after the procedure. There is no visible damage to the tissue, blood loss or surgical intervention. Depending on the amount of illumination desired, three or more sessions may be required, usually once a month.
Without a recovery period, patients can continue their daily lives immediately after Fotona Laser application. Your doctor will give you a cream that you can use at home every day to support the treatment.
